It's Summer...protect your skin!

Aloha everyone!

In this weeks blog I want to touch on a very important topic that we all deal with quit a bit being in the surf school business and that's sun protection. It's especially important for all of us right now as it's summertime and that means people at the beaches, parks and outdoors! You should ALWAYS have a minimum SPF 15 (click the link for some facts) on at all times. You know your skin and if you are fair, always assume higher is better. And don't forget to re-apply!

For those of you that have taken our lesson or have plans to in the future, you will see the students and the instructors wearing Hawaiian Fire rash guards. (We provide these for your lesson). These serve 2 purposes and they are sun protection and the main reason they were created is to protect you from rash. The rash can happen mainly on the inner part of your arms or on your tummy where the board and your lower stomach really rub when you are paddling. The seams are on the outside so there is as little friction as possible. You don't want the rash guard too tight but you don't want it too loose either as it will just move around and add friction. Make sure it's fitted, almost like another layer of skin but again, not too tight.
This group looks good!

I found a basic site that helps explain how to execute a rash guard or feel free to stop by the shop and one of us can help you out! We don't sell the rash guards through the online store as they really should be tried on so you know what size. On the other hand, we do sell paddle shirts. (There are 3 so scroll down). A lot of people ask us the difference between a rash guard and paddle shirts. A paddle shirt can be used for any outdoor activity really! They all have SPF 30 or higher in them just like the rash guards. Paddle shirts fit more like a t-shirt so you can run, hike, snorkel, stand up paddle, canoe, swim...whatever you want because you are protected from the sun! You probably don't want to surf though because it can bunch up under you.

Just remember to stay protected from the sun this summer and all year round. Stop by the shop to try on a rash guard or paddle shirt. We are happy to help you find the right fit. We have a few on clearance sale for keiki or adults. And if you mention this blog, we will give you 15% off the full priced rash guards!
Thanks ladies!
