I hope the year has been treating you all very well so far! I can't believe we are halfway into January already! Ryan, your recent blog update was much appreciated as we have all been wondering what's up with you in San Diego! And thanks for confirming the rumors that you are actually going to make a celebrity/guest appearance here soon! Will there be a beach cameo even??? Inquiring minds are asking! Could there be a connection to the upcoming Pro Bowl??? (check out past blog Feb 2009)...I guess we will all just have to wait and see! Stayed tuned to the blog and Facebook. I know everyone is very excited to see you back on island. Irony...coincidence....I am actually heading back to San Diego myself in a few days so Ryan and I are pretty much swapping places for a week or so!
If you caught my last blog before the new year, I mentioned the upcoming ban taking place on fireworks here (other then the big shows) which was cause for some pretty massive residential firework displays of power. We sat up on our lanai and watched the town literally go up in firworks! Hard to describe in words or even with photos but it was pretty incredible to witness!
January kicked off to a cold....and I mean COLD start. To those of you out on the East Coast or I guess anywhere else on the mainland, you may think we are crazy but it has been a chilly 2011 so far! We have seen a good amount of rain which is normal for this time of year but there have been some chilly days lately! Here's a link directly to HF quarter's zip code...if you ever want to keep up on our weather. I have found myself sleeping all the way under the covers in sweatpants and sweatshirt! One of our instructors Leroy was in the shop the other morning before taking off in the van and said he got a text message from a friend living in Wahiawa (central Oahu) that it was 54degrees! That's cold for paradise! Luckily things have heated back up and we have all sufficiently thawed out :) Lucky to call Hawaii home!

I am proud to finally post some photos of Hawaiian Fire's newest surfing successes! Chiyoka, almost one and half, paddled out with her otosan (father in Japanese) for the first time and really looks like a natural! How can't she be with Kazu as her dad! (Kazu and I are helping each other learn each other's languages. Arigato Kazu!)

Another of Hawaiian Fire's keiki, Lexi Miller,(Happy 1st birthday!!!) made her surfing debut with Kevin the other day when conditions were perfect! Check out the day's photos on Facebook!
And another regular at the beach.... :)
On a totally different and random direction from surfing. Spearfishing is a major tradition here on Oahu as you may have seen while visiting and of course if you reside here. One of our beach photogs captured this shot down at our beach and I just thought it was a great photo with Honolulu & Waikiki in the background...his catch hanging by his side...it's a great representation of life here in Hawaii so I thought I would share it.
Last but no least, my dear friend Josh sent me this photo today of his lil' one and I couldn't resist putting it in the blog. Almost 2 years old! Looking good Sean!
With many mahalos to you all for following and best wishes for a very successful 2011!
