Happy New Year Hawaiian Fire Friends-
Amazing how fast a week goes by isn't it? Here I am fresh back from the beach this Sunday afternoon writing this blog with a sunburnt face thinking to myself.... "didn't I just read John's Aloha Monday blog yesterday?" Time flys when the seasons don't change much for us here in the islands.
The holiday season was a busy one for us at the surf school and the even though we had lots of rain we managed to run the school almost everyday. We closed for our usual big holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas day, and New year's day) but managed to pull through even the day after the Oahu blackout which was actually amazing with all of the chaos that we encountered the day before. It sure is crazy to see what we really do take for granted when the entire island has no power for 24 hours!!! Well, I didn't personally have to deal with it that long thanks to the Honda generator on the side of the house (thanks Honda!), but for those of you who did, I was thinking about you, I promise.
We had a really small Hawaiian Fire Christmas party this year with all of the full-timers at Zen-Shu sushi bar located on Kapahulu Ave. There was a total of 15 of us or so, including Sunny Miller (Kevin and Ryan's Mom), who spent the holiday season with her boys. This is quickly becoming her annual time to hang in Hawaii to get away from the brutal cold of San Diego...... Ha Ha. It's nice to have her here for many reasons, but it was a bonus to have her as our designated driver that night as well! We had a blast with lots of laughs and really had a great time just hanging, eating sushi and having a few beverages from 4-7pm. I'll try to find some pics of the night for this blog. I wish so much that I had the pic of Ryan doing a stage dive onto the bushes that he for some reason thought was going to hold him high but didn't and collapsed to the bottom of the shrubs. That might have been one of the funniest things I have seen to date! Oh...and he threw his shirt away on the spot since he had so many green stains from the bushes on it. I can't stop laughing as i'm writting this. Wish you were all there to see it and to celebrate another wonderful year at HF.
New Year's Eve of '08 is by far the most special one I have ever had! I think things will change for me quite a bit in the years to come because right at midnight as the fireworks were going off over Aloha tower I asked my girlfriend Wisa to marry me! What was even better was that she said "Yes!" I feel blessed to have met her and even more blessed that we will spend a lifetime together! Many people ask us where we met and I'm happy to tell them "right at Hawaiian Fire!" See... so were not lying when we say you get more than just a surf lesson when you come down and surf with us.
Kevin and Wisa, newly engaged and surfing on the first day of 2009
Anyway, I think that should do it for now and all of us at Hawaiian Fire wish each and every one of you a wonderful 2009!
Aloha,
Kevin
